Abstract :
In multi target scenarios dominant scatterers over-illuminate measured radar impulse responses and mask weak signatures of smaller scatterers. The polarimetric covariance matrix of a single range cell of ultrawideband radar data holds information of target backscattering characteristics. A method performing correlation of specific matrix elements with a reference pattern is discussed to show opportunities for target characterization in time domain to improve detection. The method is illustrated by examples and evaluated with simulated radar data.
