Digital television exciter and receiver for satellite news gathering: digital satellite link performance

The move toward digital transmission of television signals presents new opportunities and advantages to broadcasters when compared with today´s analog links. This is particularly evident in the transmission of television signals by satellite, where the application of digital technology will have a positive impact through greater utilization of transponder resources, lower operating costs, and improved link performance. A new digital television exciter and studio-grade receiver built specifically for the satellite news gathering (SNG) environment have been developed and are discussed in the paper
