Abstract :
Standardization in the field of EMI is a complicated process which requires contributions from many experts in order to define instrumentation, test methods and emission limits. Especially for basic standards, research is needed in many areas, e.g. contributions of basic principles of metrology and electromagnetic field theory (wave propagation, antennas and test site configurations) as well as contributions on communication theory (signal modulation and coding). In a number of standardization projects for the improvement of the basic standard CISPR 16, experts from research and metrology institutes as well as researchers from universities were and are helpful in order to make EMI measurements better reproducible, more meaningful, more efficient and better defined for automation. This is an ongoing process, for which good examples are given in the paper
