Abstract :
The power supply designers recognize more and more the importance of fast and accurate simulations. Converter designs based on erroneous loss calculation can overload components or even destroy them. Boundary conduction mode (BCM/CrCM) with valley skipping is an often used control method for PWM converters in order to increase efficiency by limiting the switching frequency of the converter. However, in many published converter simulation procedures, parasitics, like the strongly nonlinear output capacitance of the MOSFET Coss, are neglected which causes incorrect results. In this paper a Matlab based calculation method is proposed at the example of a boost converter which takes this nonlinear behavior into account.
