Abstract :
The goal of a completely autonomous vehicular system is being approached through the use of telematics involving the transmission and reception of information in the 63-64 GHz band. This will consist of vehicle to vehicle communications as well as communications with roadside beacons placed at intermittent and strategic locations. In addition, automotive radar will be applied in the 77 GHz band. At BAE Systems ATC, low cost technology has been applied to the design of antennas for both vehicular telemetry and automotive radar. We present a review of antennas for 60 GHz application using low cost approaches such as microstrip technology and discuss measured and predicted results. In addition, we examine integration of antenna technologies for future automotive applications
