Abstract :
This paper proposed a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar adopting an adaptive orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveform for joint direction-of-departure (DOD) and direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation. The DOD and DOA at each of the OFDM sub-carrier are estimated using a two-way multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm, and a majority decision was applied to combine the estimations at all sub-carriers through formulation of angle histograms. Furthermore, the proposed scheme implemented an adaptive scheme that selects a number of sub-carriers to be used for the majority decision. The selection were based on singular values obtained from singular value decomposition operation at each sub-carrier. Numerical simulations along with experimental evaluation in a radio anechoic chamber showed improvement of estimation accuracy upon applying the adaptive sub-carrier selection scheme.
