Abstract
It is shown how a neural network can be used in the design of an adaptive information retrieval system. A two-layer neural network is used to implement a linear retrieval system, and a three-layer neutral network is used to implement a bilinear retrieval system. The results of this preliminary investigation strongly suggest that neural networks are useful tools for developing adaptive information retrieval systems
