Abstract :
Two sets of computer software developed in Pascal for the investigation of the transient performances of the capacitor motor discussed. The main program is for the basic transient torque and associated equations, while the second program is for the torque-speed characteristics and current-speed curves over the entire range of speed of the motor. The software can be used for both single-valued and two-valued capacitor motors. The measured data of a sample capacitor motor are fed into a computer for investigation. The performance of the motor is verified by experimental measurements, using a transient torque recording system. The computed results generally agree well with the experimental results. As the effects of any variation of the motor parameters on the motor performance can be obtained by computerized simulation in a matter of minutes, the software can also serve as a useful tool for designing capacitor motors.<>
