Abstract :
Summary form only given. We have studied on the new preparation method and characteristics of HC8A72-LiCoO/sub 2/ cathode material for Li rechargeable cell. Lithiated cobalt oxides have been prepared using a solid synthesis process, based on thermal treating mixture of LiOH and CoCO/sub 3/ powders. The LiCoO/sub 2/ electrodes were prepared by coating LiCoO/sub 2/ active material of 85wt%, graphite powder of 12wt% as a conductor and polyvinylidene fluoride of 3wt% as a binder onto Al plate. The electrochemical and charge/discharge properties of LiCoO/sub 2/ electrode was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge. Exellent energy density was obtained from the prepared LiCoO/sub 2/ electrode, and its electrochemical potential was between 3.32V and 3.42V vs. Li/Li/sup +/ reference electrode. During the cyclic voltammetry of LiCoO/sub 2/ electrode, LiCoO/sub 2/ showed stable cycling behavior at potential range between 3-6V and 4.2V vs. Li/Li/sup +/. Also its redox coulombic efficiency as function of CV cycling was 81%/spl tilde/102%. The LiCoO/sub 2//Li cell using prepared LiCoO/sub 2/ cathode showed the available initial specific discharge capacity of about 129mAh/g at current density of 1mA/cm/sup 2/ and voltage range between 3.6V and 4.2V.
