Abstract
It is noted that the process of rubber calendering can be improved through the use of communication networks. Data related to calendering processes along with the real-time needs of the control system are presented. Alternative technologies are evaluated for effectiveness and suitability for the typical rubber plant environment. Typical improvements achieved by the use of communication networks are addressed. A case study involving the electrical upgrading of a wire calender is described. The results are improved system performance and a variety of savings for the rubber company
