Abstract :
Summary form only given. Poly[2-(4-cyanophenyl)ethenyl-5-methoxy-1,4-phenylenevinylene](PCEMPV) and Poly[2-methoxy-5-(4-nitrophenyl)ethenyl-1,4-phenylenevinylene](PMNEPV) and a series of copolymers containing 1,4-phenylenevinylene(PV) units were synthesized and their electrical and second-order nonlinear optical properties were studied. The FeC1/sub 3/-doped PCEMPV and PMNEPV homopolymers showed low electrical conductivities of 5.0 x 10/sup -3/ and 7. 4 x 10-sup -1/ Scm/sub -1/, respectively. But 21-poly(PV-co-CEMPV) and I7-poly(PV-co-MNEPV) copolymers exhibited the enhanced maximum conductivities of 6.5 and 8.3 Scm/sup -1/, respectively. The measured x/sup (2)/ values of corona poled 32-poly(PV-co-CEMPV) and 5I-poly(PV-co-MNEPV) films were 2.9 x 10/sup -9/ and 2.0 x 10/sup -8/ esu, respectively. Both of the films showed no detectable decay and no tendency of relaxation in SHG for a long period time when the film had a thermal history up to 100/spl deg/C.
