Abstract :
In this paper, we present a case study for an approach that uses a combination of system fans and localized Synjets to augment the cooling performance in a 1U security chassis. We show that the improvements in thermal performance achieved by using a Synjet augmented fan approach can be translated into significant improvements in cooling system power consumption and acoustics. We also show that overall system reliability can be increased by using an appropriate selection of Synjets and fan speeds, despite the fact that additional active components are introduced into the system. Finally, some remarks are made on the system cost implications of localized Synjet cooling implementation.
