Abstract
The paper presents a method of controlling the speed of a two-mass flexible servo system with unknown inertia, spring and damping constants. An adaptive control scheme is used to track a given reference speed in the presence of unknown constant disturbances and unmodeled dynamics. By constraining the controller parameters to lie in a convex region in parameter space we obtain remarkable smoothness of the control input.
