Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Dehalogenation polycondensation of dihaloquinones with Ni(0) complex Ni(O)Lm (e.g., a mixture of bis(1,5-cyclooctadiene)nickel(O) Ni(cod)2 and 2,2´-bipyridyl bpy) gives the corresponding π-conjugated poly(quinone)s including poly(2-methyl-9,l0-anthraquinone-1,4-diyl) P(Me-1,4-AQ) and poly(9,l0 anthraquinone-l,5-diyl) P(1,5-AQ). Analytical data as well as IR and NMR data agree with structures of the polymers. P(Me-1,4-AQ) is soluble in organic solvents such as CHCl3 (10 mg/l cm3) and NMP, has molecular weight of 56,000, and gives [η] of 0.43 dL g-1. Cyclic voltammetry of cast film of P(Me-1,4-AQ) reveals Wurster-type two step redox reactions at -1.30 and -1.87 V vs. Ag/Ag+.
