Abstract :
This paper describes smart interfaces for human-computer intelligent interaction (HCII) and their application to VCR remote control using handgestures. The VCR interface is capable of learning the user´s operational habits and can help her, aka wizard mode of operation. The adaptive interface monitors the user´s gestures in an attempt to assist her through feedback and recommendations using video display and/or loudspeaker. The availability of user´s profiles is used to enhance human-computer interactions and to make them appear intelligent, i.e., causal. The smart interface is also suitable for handicapped users and security purposes.
