Abstract :
The merits of the reluctance synchronous machine (RSM) under various operating conditions are investigated by means of performance analysis. The steady state as well as the dynamic performance of the RSM are investigated. Two control strategies are dealt with. These are the constant current phasor angle control method and the constant-current-in-d-axis (field axis) control method. Regarding the former it is found that for both maximum torque and power factor control, constant current phasor angles can be used. These angles however are found to be much larger than was theoretical derived. A new control method is investigated whereby the apparent flowing towards the machine is minimized. Constant-current-in-d-axis control also proved to be an effective control method
