Abstract :
An experimental study is presented which is designed to determine whether or not a field mill can be utilized for the continuous, noncontact, and real-time monitoring of the mass flow rate of particulates pneumatically conveyed in pipes. The mass flow rate is proportional to the electric charge of solid particles generated during their flow in pipes. The continuous measurement of electric charge value is carried out on the basis of electrostatic induction and with the aid of typical electrometric preamplifiers and measuring systems. The authors discuss the proposal and trial of a measuring system in which a field mill is employed, and which causes a conversion of the DC or relatively slow varying stochastic potential into the voltage measured. Some preliminary test results are presented
