Abstract :
Application fields of vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) are outlined. The physics of the underlying phenomena is considered complicated due to specific behavior of plasma are in alternating magnetic and electric fields. The switching capacity is indicated to be affected by the erosion of electrodes, cracks and pores wearing the surface down, etc. It is observed that VCBs and high-power microwave devices share common behavioral features, some design solutions and technologies. Future trends of VCB development are highlighted.
