  • Abstract
The effects of streaming potential on the augmentation or inhibition of heat transfer in the transformer oil Voltesso 35 have been demonstrated, taking into account the temperature gradients and the electrical forces due to static charge in the liquid. Specifically, the effect of the streaming potential on the surface of the Plexiglas pipe section generated by the charged oil due to flow through microporous media has been demonstrated. The experimental results show that the heat transfer was enhanced in the radial direction from the central part of the tube to the outer space due to electroconvection set by the streaming potential and the free charge in the oil. The greatest enhancement of heat transfer was observed when the surface potential developed by the streaming current was maximum in charged oil. In uncharged oil, no such enhancement in heat transfer was observed and the ΔT was relatively high
