Abstract :
The author addresses the issue of producing industrial communication networks and the choices that network architects, network designers, and implementors must make to produce a successful industrial network that satisfies the requirements imposed by certain application segments and the budget. He discusses how a cost/performance edge can be achieved by careful selection from the choices available at the network architecture level. He presents a list of various important issues that need to be addressed more adequately in making the choice
