Abstract :
This paper presents a novel connection management strategy for handling mobility in a radio LAN environment. The scheme provides a set of signalling operations for setting up and maintenance of the connections, involving the mobile entities in the network. For each roaming entity, a software agent, known as mobile representative, is used for insulating the users from the effects of mobility. Using these representatives and a novel connection caching strategy, foul-latency and scalable handovers are designed. Some experimental results, highlighting the performance of a prototype system, are included in the paper in order to indicate the feasibility of the proposed scheme
