Abstract :
The emergence and growth of global city-regions (GCRs) or mega-city region (MCRs) around the world has become an important phenomenon. In China´s Pearl River Delta, the area in the very South-East which incorporates Hong Kong and Guangzhou has seen 30 years of extremely rapid economic growth and urbanization, turning the many agglomerations into one super-large urbanized zone, a real MCR. Bit the PRD, in which the integration of Hongkong and Shenzhen is the core trend, is still facing a great many challenges in various aspects. The greater PRD should take many measures to become a GCR with enough competitive strength to match that of tier 1 global cities in the world.
