Abstract :
Low power is a desirable system property. It is not achieved by only a simple reduction in power supply voltage of the system. It includes IC´s specifically designed for low power operation, and a semiconductor technology allowing these chips to function with adequate speed at that lower power supply voltage. Standardisation is a key factor in achieving the goal of having multiple sourced components that can be mixed in a system, maintaining their low power characteristics. Low power systems will also use different circuit design techniques and architectures to complement the power savings achieved in the aforementioned techniques. Those IC manufacturers that succeed in creating integrated circuits that are power-efficient in all mentioned aspects will be the successful ones.
