Abstract :
A novel scheme is presented by which thyristors with antiparallel diodes and one resistor will be sufficient to switch in a delta connected capacitor bank with minimum surge current. The resistor supplies only the initial charging current to the capacitors and hence can be of reasonably low wattage. Extensive simulation results are presented in justification of the scheme. The simulation results confirm the excellent current-surge-free switching-on of the capacitors
