Abstract
This paper presents a simulation system that investigates the effects of imposing free-for-all spectrum sharing (spectrum commons) and frequency hopping upon wireless metropolitan and local area networks operating in the same spectrum band. The system design and operation is explained, as are the sharing schemes and an account of the experiments undertaken. The results indicate only a marginal difference between the sharing schemes on the performance metrics used.
