Abstract :
In this paper, we assessed the shared path protection scheme applied to translucent optical networks with sparse regeneration. We compared two routing algorithms described in the literature applied to find both for primary and backup lightpaths. We observed that the regeneration and wavelength conversion capabilities change the network dynamics. We compared the performance of the algorithms in terms of blocking probability, protection ratio and vulnerability ratio. According to the results of our simulations in a well-known network topology using a classic algorithm to assign the translucent nodes, we observed that translucent optical networks are more resilient than transparent optical networks in terms of the vulnerability ratio.
