Abstract
This paper presents a process subsystem control architecture that facilitates virtual manufacturing validation through the use of common control software to run both the virtual and real subsystem. The approach makes it possible to reduce the number of real prototypes required to develop a validated manufacturing process. Preliminary process control specifications can be tuned through simulation. The architecture is illustrated for a robotic assembly subsystem in a flexible manufacturing cell
