Abstract
Similar to wired networks, appropriate buffer management strategy in wireless networks can manage the buffer efficiently, avoid or relieve congestion, so as to guarantee QoS. Because of unique issues in the wireless channel, strategies in wired networks can not apply directly to wireless network. In this paper, we propose a fair dropping algorithm called DS-CFD (diff-serv supported channel sensitive fair dropping) to decide drop policy in wireless networks when congestion occurs. The algorithm considers both channel condition and fairness so as to achieve tradeoff between throughput and fair services, and we give different level of balance to assured services and best effort services. Another parameter is defined to modify resource allocation between different classes, this parameter is also adaptive with network load. We build a simple model of the algorithm and present simulation results to show the performance improvements.
