Abstract :
In this paper a component tree structure that allows the building of an efficient algorithm for greyscale image segmentation is proposed. The component tree represents the "meaningful" information about the image and plays a central role in development of a new approach to the segmentation problem. Examples of such a component tree and its features for different types of image are given.
