Abstract
A novel optical silicon device for the modulation of light by light is described. It is based on the possibility to prepare an artificial microcavity at the metallurgical p-n junction by thermal bonding of an n-type to a p-type silicon crystal. The device has a potential for use as an element in spatial light modulators.
