  • Abstract
Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) is a method used in oil and gas piping systems which has potential in medical gas piping inspection, cleaning and gauging tasks without interrupting the pipeline transportation process. MFL is a magnetic method of nondestructive testing that applies a magnet to magnetize the steel. At areas where there is corrosion or missing metal, the magnetic field "leaks" from the steel. In this research, a system that is capable of simulating a magnetic flux leakage of different types of crack was modeled using the Finite Element Method of Magnetic (FEMM). A portion of pipelines that may contain several cracks were introduced into the software by entering all the properties needed in order to simulate the output in the magnetic field distribution and graphical representation. The disturbance in magnetic field will result in small displacement in the field. The displacement in the fields carries the actual information about the condition of the pipeline.
