Abstract :
A new control scheme is implemented in a forward converter regulator using a controlled transformer. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) control is used to reset the control core of the controlled transformer. As a result, low-cost ferrite core can be used for the controlled transformer to achieve good regulation and high efficiency. Overall efficiency of 82-86% is achieved in a 200-kHz, 500-W, 5-V-output regulator. A PWM controlled-transformer regulator is particularly suited for high-output-current and/or high-output-voltage post regulator applications
