Abstract :
As more and more wireless bands are introduced it is increasingly difficult to cover all those bands using a passive antenna system. For example, for LTE wireless devices there is growing interest in using tunable matching circuits to adapt the antenna operation to all the required operation bands. The tunable elements may be used in the matching circuit or placed within the antenna volume or a special tuning port. In the optimization of frequency tunable matching circuits it is important to maximize the efficiency of power transfer instead of maximizing just the impedance match. It is shown that the optimization of tunable matching circuits can be viewed as a two-level optimization procedure, where both the values of fixed matching components and the values of tunable matching components for each frequency band are optimized simultaneously.
