Abstract :
Summary form only given. Two switches used on the PBFA II accelerator, the magnetically-injected-plasma (MIP) opening switch and the current-toggled (CT) opening switch, are examined. Simulations of the dynamics of all plasma injection process were carried out using the 2-1/2-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic code MACH2. MACH2 simulations of the injected plasma distribution in the actual experimental geometry have been compared with recent microwave interferometry measurements of the electron density in the anode-cathode gap.
