Abstract
In its fully implemented form, the broadband ISDN (integrated services digital network) will integrate the entire range of existing and future telecommunications services. Transmission speeds will range from less than a second to hours or even days. It is neither technically nor economically feasible to implement such an integration of services all at once. Rather, the path to broadband ISDN will follow an evolutionary convergence over time of emerging technological options and developing user needs. A tutorial overview of that path is presented
