Abstract
Computer simulation COMSIM using a low-cost desktop computer has been developed to aid the design, evaluate system performance, and perform tradeoffs of system parameters to achieve optimal communications system design. A modular simulation program structure is selected to develop generalized mathematical models and integrated software for modules such as the coder/decoder, modulator/demodulator, filters, and transmission channel. The program provides flexibility for modifying modules for each different system design. The simulation can be used to study circuit error sources in practical communications system design, such as circuit nonlinearities, filter distortions, interfering signals generated inside or outside the system, and propagation effects of the transmission path
