  • Abstract
The absolute numbers of scintillation photons were measured in liquid rare gases for 5.3 MeV alpha-particles with a VUV (vacuum ultraviolet) sensitive photomultiplier tube. The Ws values, the average energies expended per scintillation photon, were measured to be 16.6 eV in liquid xenon, 16.2 eV in liquid krypton, and 46.5 eV in liquid argon
