Abstract
The absolute numbers of scintillation photons were measured in liquid rare gases for 5.3 MeV alpha-particles with a VUV (vacuum ultraviolet) sensitive photomultiplier tube. The W s values, the average energies expended per scintillation photon, were measured to be 16.6 eV in liquid xenon, 16.2 eV in liquid krypton, and 46.5 eV in liquid argon
