Abstract
This paper intends to answer the question, why Learning Objects (LOs)? It argues that LO is a form of organizing knowledge. Like other historically evolved forms of organizing knowledge such as, mythology, narrative poems, books and others. LOs are a logical expression of contemporary conditions of knowledge, its purpose and the information networks where the learning is produced, distributed and consumed.
