  • Abstract
A number of direct torque controllers for IPM motor drives have been developed in recent years. The main advantages of direct torque control over vector control include lesser parameter dependence and faster torque response. In this paper, a direct torque controller that uses a proportional + integral (PI) controller and reference flux vector calculator to determine the stator flux linkage vector was implemented on a segmented interior permanent magnet machine, in which the magnet of each pole is segmented with iron bridges between the segments. Both the steady state and dynamic performance of the direct torque controlled segmented IPM motor drive were examined.
