Abstract :
Flexible liquid scintillator core optical fibers designed to be an alternative to plastic scintillating fibers, especially in forward scintillating fiber calorimetry, are described. The liquid scintillator fiber light-guides use polymer tubing claddings to contain a liquid scintillator core, adapted from liquid core lightguides. Light yields and attenuation lengths are suitable for high-energy calorimeters. About 200 liquid fibers were manufactured in a 40 cm length and installed in a Pb block 12 cm×12 cm×22 cm deep to make a test electromagnetic calorimeter with a 11% core packing fraction
