Abstract :
The mesh network (WMN) is a subset of adhoc network and it has a hybrid architecture having a portion of fixed infrastructure and a portion as wireless ad hoc nodes. It is easily deployed in an area, where the traditional wireless network cannot be deployed. It is also a good choice for high bandwidth application such as internet service provider (ISP) and video conferencing. In such scenarios throughput is an important performance evaluation parameter for such applications. In this paper we propose a novel model/protocol EDCAP (Extended Distributed Channel switching Accessory Protocol) for increased throughput in wireless mesh networks. We exploit the DSR route cache for EDCAP to minimize the broadcast for periodic routing updates. By implementing both EDCAP and its previous counterpart DCAP in the most famous network simulator (ns-2), we noticed that EDCAP outperforms DCAP in term of minimizing the routing delays and overhead which leads to the better throughput. The arguments are supported by the extensive simulation results.
