Abstract :
The authors describes the approach taken as part of a design basis reconstitution program, to systematically identify and confirm the design bases for radiation monitoring systems at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, Units 2 and 3. Using a top-down approach. 10 CFR requirements, applicable Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guides, IEEE Standards, and engineering design criteria are examined to establish required radiation monitor system functions and requirements. Technical specifications and safety analysis reports, as well as engineering design documentation, as-built system configuration, and system operating procedures are examined to verify that the radiation monitoring systems satisfy design bases functions and requirements
