"Joining Power Control and Smart Antenna Using Kalman Algorithm for CDMA Communication Systems,"
    by Mohammed Elsmusrati, Heikki Koivo,
in the Proceedings of the 2002 General Assembly of the International Union of Radio Science, August 2002

In this paper a new joining algorithm of the power control and the smart antenna is proposed based on Kalman filter algorithm. The motivation to use Kalman filter is the known fact that the Kalman filter is the optimum linear tracking device on the basis of second order statistics. The power control and the adaptive beamforming problem is presented in state space form. The two state space representations have been represented by one state space equation. Kalman filter is applied to estimate the optimum transmitted power as well as the optimum weights of the smart antenna
