Abstract :
The feasibility of the source term of final disposal of low-level waste sites was examined with the technological application of shallow land burial in different geological structures and for different climatic conditions in Taiwan. Simulation analysis was performed by FEMWATER and BLT. Two places, inland and a small island belonging to Taiwan, were selected for analysis as potential sites. The island is composed of basalt and has arid weather. The inland site is composed of alluvium and is characterized by high humidity. One of the conclusions of this study is that a trench covered by a barrier layer with a quite low permeability and porosity for reduction of a rainfall infiltration would be necessary in order to avoid the formation of a pond. Low precipitation, a deep water table, and arid weather are all indicated as suitable conditions for disposal sites
