Abstract :
A self-commutated converter for a variable-speed constant-frequency (VSCF) permanent magnet synchronous machine is described. The operation and design of the converter and its associated control circuitry are described in detail. A performance analysis of the system characteristics is given. The impact of the switching frequency, selection of the switches, and quantification of the filter size over the entire operating speed range are included. An experimental verification of the key theoretical results is also provided.<>
