Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. The Stockholm University and Karolinska Hospital cylindrical SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) camera is currently being assembled. The construction has now reached a stage where preliminary evaluations can be made. The basic component of the system is an 180-cm-high cylindrical NaI(Tl) scintillator with an inner diameter of 30 cm. Early measurements of position and energy resolutions with individual local acquisition groups have proved encouraging. With densely packed 60-mm hexagonal PM-tubes with curved front end windows, energy resolutions of 10% or less have been recorded for 140-keV photons. Further optimizations are expected to lead to minor additional improvements
