Abstract :
The performance of image analysis depends on the quality of the image. A good image-quality criterion is the theoretical information content (IC) defined by C.E. Shannon. Shannon´s formula is valid on some preconditions. The authors validate the use of these conditions for X-ray computed-tomography (CT) images. The definitions of IC (region-based and image-based) for a single image and for image series are given, and the corresponding formulas are derived. The applications of IC and its formula in image analysis are also demonstrated
