Abstract :
The authors have carried out systematic studies to investigate the feasibility of utilizing information on object (thyroid gland) size and location (as obtained from ultrasound information) for improving the accuracy of iodine content determination. They present the results of analyses of TIC (thyroid iodine content) in a Picker thyroid phantom and a normal human subject. TIC evaluation of the Picker thyroid phantom produced a value close to the true value. The patient thyroid measurement was also close to the value expected for a normal human subject, utilizing information obtained from PTW measurements and ultrasound scans. Maximum error estimated for TIC is estimated to be about 20% of the true value
