Abstract :
This paper evaluates the efficacy of a distributed location mapping application running over a Service Overlay Network (SON) in a MANET wireless environment. In the application, an application-layer routing protocol facilitates data forwarding from mobile nodes to a Command Centre. The performance of the location mapping application is evaluated by measuring the deviation of the reported locations from the actual locations of nodes. The results of the simulations indicate that a MANET SON approach can support time-sensitive applications, such as location mapping of mobile nodes. While the accuracy of the location mapping is high in most scenarios, it is shown to be sensitive to selecting suitable system parameters. We identify key factors that mpact the accuracy of the location mapping application: node speed, location update frequency, radio range and packet size.
