Abstract
A novel low-complexity and low-power quantization technology based on H.264 integer transform is presented and implemented on VLSI for advanced video codec, in which the multiplication factors are modified so that it is possible to substitute few simplex additions and shifts for complex multiplication. It is optimized on resistor transistor logic level of IC design, and under the same cell CMOS technology, about 75.2% area and 76.3% power on average are saved in every quantization unit as compared with original H.264 quantization scheme. In addition, in the context of software arithmetic, computing time is saved up to 92%. Experimental results of different video sequences with various texture characteristics have proved that the average absolute rate-distortion error is within 0.0315 dB at the same bit-rate in comparison with H.264
